CASE STUDY C& SUCCESS STORIES

Name- Kirti

Age-56 years

Profession- Homemaker

Location- Hyderabad

BMI- 33 kg/m2 (obese)

Case history- Kirti is a homemaker from Hyderabad who struggled with sleep apnea, bronchitis, and anxiety and also had a slipped disc that caused severe back pain and was advised by the doctor to complete bed rest. Moreover, she had low energy levels, and mobility was a big task. She had poor meal patterns, was obese and had a chronic cough due to bronchitis. She came to us hoping to reverse her health issues and learn to follow a lifestyle modification diet, which will help her lose weight, increase her immunity and make her physically fit to move comfortably to do her daily chores, which became restricted over some time and fight future illness.

Approach by the best nutritionist in Telangana, Hyderabad, Deepika Chalasani- We noticed that she consumed a lot of tea and coffee throughout the day to maintain her energy levels, which hindered the gut from absorbing the nutrients, which made her anaemic. We advised green tea as an alternative, and she progressively decreased the tea and coffee to 1-2 cups daily. She was also having late breakfast, which disturbed the entire day's meal times. Her diet consisted primarily of foods that digest quickly, such as dosa, rice, rotis, and idlis, with very little protein, vegetables, and healthy fats. Her eating patterns were not helping her gain immunity and optimum fitness and energy levels. We recommended an anti-inflammatory diet that included mutton bone soup, cutlets, and minimal dairy because her body was quite inflamed. The availability of grass-fed mutton in India made reducing inflammation more effective. We provided her with a balanced diet that included vegetables in the form of salads, soups, and one-pot meals to ensure alkalinity in the body, as well as lean protein sources like tofu, home-made paneer, eggs, whole days, meal replacement shakes, and Greek yoghurt. We asked her to chew the food consciously to establish an excellent gut-brain connection for optimum digestion. She took vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamin B12 supplements to improve her gut health, anxiety, and bone density. She also had iron-rich foods such as tofu and green leafy vegetables that were consumed along with good fats like date seed cubes that would increase iron absorption and reverse anaemic conditions. Complex carbohydrates like whole days, quinoa, and pound rice were administered to promote satiety and lower triglyceride levels. To improve her fitness levels, we advised her to stay active throughout the day by doing yoga and achieving a goal of 10,000 steps per day. Initially, as she was not used to movements due to her excess weight and surgery, we recommended fidgeting-based movements, limiting her movements to walking in the hallway for 5 to 10 minutes. As her weight reduced and her nutrition improved, she could walk 45 minutes in the morning and 45 minutes in the evening and has been able to walk 10000 steps every day without any knee discomfort or pains for the past six months. Her food intake was carefully tracked, and regular support was provided. Over time, we introduced all her favourite foods, such as dosa, idlis, south Indian tiffin, etc, into her meal plan.

Result: She lost 12.5 kgs in 6 months successfully by our guidance. Her fitness and stamina significantly improved. Her bronchitis-related cough and numbness subsided, and she experienced a marked improvement in her mood and energy levels. Before increasing her physical activity and adopting a nutritious diet, she used only to get two hours of sleep. Now, she sleeps uninterrupted 7-8 hours each night without CPAP support. Through yoga, she managed back pains and improved bronchitis symptoms. She no longer depended on a list of medications anymore. Cravings, inflammation, and lipid profile dropped significantly and were within range. She was comfortable following our meal plans and followed them diligently. She is content with meeting her health goals and learned to eat mindfully while travelling and socialising.
