CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES

Name: Hitesh

Age: 39

Gender: Male

Weight: 118.5 kgs

BMI: 35.2 kg/m2

Location: Hyderabad

Case History: Hitesh is a consultant working in a management consulting firm. He has been trying to lose weight for several years. He tried different types of diets like intermittent fasting, high protein diet, portion control, and exercising but wasn’t able to lose weight. He used to get a lot of hunger pangs and cravings, especially in the evening, which did not allow him to lose weight. His recent blood reports showed his lipid parameters, such as LDL cholesterol triglycerides, over the range. He has a family history of diabetes and a history of gout. His blood reports showed high Hs-CRP levels, suggesting an increased risk of inflammation and heart ailments. He was looking for a sustainable lifestyle change, even while socialising and travelling, that would help him with his health conditions.

Approach by the best online clinical nutritionist, Hyderabad, Telangana, India, Deepika Chalasani:

We started by correcting his diet to ensure no hunger pangs or cravings in the evening. A customised nutrition plan with a macronutrient ratio of 43:18:39 with whole foods was suggested, which was suitable according to his health goals. Since he used to eat less to lose weight, we educated him on the concepts of eating less and weight gain and how hunger pangs happen. As he was doing intermittent fasting, where he ate from 1 PM to 7 PM, causing starvation and increasing hunger pangs and cravings, we suggested he continue with intermittent fasting but with a breakfast starting at 9:30 AM and dinner ending at 7 PM. We advised him to consume a wholesome fibre and protein-rich breakfast as it works best in order to break the overnight fast. Fruits and eggs with vegetables and cheese were given to ensure a light but sumptuous breakfast that would provide him with energy and hunger and eliminate his cravings in the evenings. Appropriate gaps between all meals and wholesome, balanced meals were maintained for him to provide consistent energy levels. Lots of vegetables were incorporated in salads, green rotis, sauté veggies and soups. This would add to optimum heart health. It also allowed optimum fibre and micronutrient intake. Complex carbohydrates were suggested throughout the meal plan to eliminate the risk of increased sugar levels. Since he felt hungry around the evening; we suggested healthy fats and protein-rich snacks such as nuts, dry fruits and hummus to subside the hunger pangs. Light nutrient-dense meal options from the Fit4Life kitchen, like green rotis, minestrone soup, super seeds mix, and protein nachos, were provided to him to take care of his hunger in the evening and to ensure that he did not feel hungry though he was working late at night. Protein in the form of chicken eggs was suggested to ensure it suited his palette, taste buds and comfort in the execution of the program. As he used to work till late, we gave him the option of a small snack in case he had late-night cravings due to long working hours. Continuous monitoring was done to check his hunger levels, cravings, food liking, etc., to modify his approach. We taught him about mindful eating and how it helps control portions and allow optimum nutrient absorption in the body. We rectified his physical activity schedules to aid weight loss, such as walking for 30-45 minutes daily. Constant support and guidance were provided, and his health and pleasure balance was maintained.

Results:

He lost 20 kgs in 5 months despite travelling, holidays, birthday celebrations and feasting during festivals like Holi. His lipid profile, uric acid and inflammation markers reached the healthy range. His energy levels and washroom significantly improved. He no longer gets hunger pangs and cravings and has adopted mindful and sustainable eating. He could sustain and effortlessly follow the meal plan along with travelling, socialising and festivals.
