CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES

Name: Ragini

Gender: Female

Age: 63

Profession: Homemaker

Location: Karnataka, India

BMI: 30

Case History: Ragini, a homemaker, was suffering from obesity in grade 3. Her latest blood reports diagnosed her as pre-diabetic with above-normal insulin levels. She also suffered from gastritis, hypercholesterolemia and varicose veins. Her blood reports suggested high cholesterol levels of 229 mg/dl, causing a risk of cardiovascular diseases. To improve her heart health and reduce the dosage of her medications, the doctor suggested weight loss and fat loss. She approached us to get customised meal plans as she was intolerant to a lot of food and experienced severe gastritis every time she embarked on a diet program of her own.

Approach by the best weight loss nutritionist/dietitian, Hyderabad, Telangana, India: After discussing and analysing her food diary, we learnt that she was intolerant to foods like pulses, milk, paneer, etc., causing her gastritis. To help her heart health improve and aid weight loss, we started looking for and solving the root causes of the conditions. Our initial approach was to eliminate the foods which irritated her gut and gave her other alternative sources. We swapped dairy milk for hemp milk as she was a vegetarian. We gave easily digestible dals like moong dal whole moong. We also avoided gluten. In addition, we focused on enhancing her gut health by introducing gut-friendly foods such as fruits, buttermilk, yoghurt, hemp milk, and dates with Omega-3 seeds. Green leafy vegetables in easily digestible form, such as juices and grated into millet roti dough, were given to ensure that her digestive health doesn't get irritable and, at the same time, provide soluble and insoluble fibre to support both healthy weight loss and heart health. We gradually reintroduced dals and eggs into her meal plan after witnessing reduced signs of gastritis, a sign of improved intestinal health, and her body responded favourably.

Complex carbs like vegetables, lettuce-based salads, quinoa, brown rice, and ragi, protein-rich meals like pesarattu, casein-based protein such as cheese, anti-inflammatory protein such as tofu, and free-range eggs were given. We educated her on how eating good fats can help improve her lipid profile and included healthy fats such as ghee, five different types of seeds and assorted nuts. We provided her with simple and delicious recipes to ensure she does not become bored.

Additionally, we offered her a wide variety of cooked salads and gut-friendly soup options to make her vegetable consumption more enjoyable and stimulating. Since she was a frequent traveller, we gave her tips on cooking techniques. We educated her on the importance of mindful eating and selecting appropriate foods to benefit her condition. Furthermore, we educated her on the significance of consuming a meal in the correct order. We encouraged her to lead an active lifestyle by incorporating light yet intense physical movements and suggested a few exercises that could be easily adapted.

Results:

In a span of 2.5 months, she lost 3 kg and 8 kg over six months, which was her goal. Her LDL level decreased to 65 mg/dl, and her overall cholesterol level to 134 mg/dl. Furthermore, she experienced fewer and less severe symptoms of gastritis. The healthy weight loss also resulted in an improvement in her varicose veins and a reduction in her medication dosage. Her food intake during the trip improved. Recently, she embarked on a 15-day trip to Mysore and Hyderabad, during which she was able to effectively manage her food intake and control her gastritis triggers without our assistance. She expressed great satisfaction with the remarkable improvements in her health, weight and body composition.
