Case history: Aditi is a 37-year-old professor and a mother of two children, including a 2-year-old baby. She recently got diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure. Her diet was poor due to constant fatigue, disturbed sleep and hectic routine. She faced terrible mood swings and felt lethargic throughout the day, which affected her work. She tried various diet programs, including the diets offered by slimming centres and weight loss centres, but was unable to shed a single kg. After analysing her dietary recall, we saw that her food intake needed to be revised with incorrect timings and portions. She used to eat dinners late at night, and she would drink 5-6 cups of tea to stay active. Her diet was deficient in protein and micronutrients, which caused cravings and irritability. Complex carbs such as oats, quinoa, rice, etc., were given to meet fibre needs, which supported her gut health. Healthy fats such as cheese, date seeds, and paste were advised for smooth body functioning and metabolism. Lots of vegetables in the form of curry and green rotis from Shvasa were advised. All her meals were nutritionally balanced to support her health goals and body needs. We taught her correct meal timings and gave her coaching sessions to sustainably balance and modify her lifestyle. Her favourite foods were incorporated in a healthier way to support her cravings and hunger pangs.
