Case History: Jacob is a 29-year-old officer who has been suffering from Type 1 diabetes for the past 11 years. He required a daily dose of 20 units of basal dose of insulin and 15 units of bolus dose of insulin three times a day before his meals to manage his condition. His blood reports depicted an HbA1c level of 8.4. He often used to experience low energy levels, heightened hunger, and cravings at night. After analysing her food diary, we discovered that his meals mainly consisted of simple carbs and a high glycemic index. This required him to take 15 units of insulin thrice a day, which was also causing a lot of hunger throughout the day and later into the night. To address this, we first focused on his hunger and meal combinations. We provided him with a meal plan consisting of 3 balanced and complete meals and a snack with a balance of complex carbohydrates, protein, and good fats. As a result, it decreased his insulin spikes, reducing hunger and cravings, and he stopped late-night snacking. This change reduced the bolus insulin dose to 7.5 units before each meal three times a day. He also started consuming food items from our fit4life kitchen, like the green rotis, and a balance of vegan and anti-inflammatory protein. Once he lost the initial 5 kgs from the diet and felt more energetic, we worked on his physical activity and exercise regimen that would support his weight loss goals. As his hunger levels had reduced considerably, we put him into a time-restricted eating program with two large complete meals and one snack without reducing his caloric intake. This allowed him to lose fat, and efficient proteins and healthy fats were included to minimise insulin spikes. Constant support and continuous monitoring were done throughout his journey.



Results: After consistently following the program for six months, he not only lost 15 kgs but also reduced his insulin dosage to 5-5 units of bolus and 15 units of basal dose in a day. He has sustained his weight and has been on reduced insulin dosage for over a year. He enjoys his favourite foods during festivals like Christmas, has a hectic social life and still has been able to sustain his weight loss. His recent HbA1c is 6.5.
