CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES

Name: Maryam

Gender: Female

Location: New Jersey

BMI: 27.16

Case history: Maryam, a young individual who had just shifted to the US, was struggling with various health issues such as IBS, insulin resistance, PCOD, and gut problems, due to which she also suffered from severe hair fall and skin issues. She also tried various techniques to lose weight, but she couldn’t. She was consuming multiple medications to support her health conditions. Since she just shifted to a different country, she was looking for a plan that was simple, easy to follow, local to her location and which also helped with her health issues and fitness parameters.

Approach by the best weight loss nutritionist/dietician in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, Deepika Chalasani:

After taking her diet history, we came to know that she was consuming mainly food, which was high FODMAP triggering IBS. Her blood reports also indicated low vitamin scores, which further aggravated the IBS conditions. On some days, she was consuming foods which were low in FODMAP, such as eggs, but it was also triggering IBS conditions. Also, her meal timings were irregular, which worsened her health condition. Our approach was to provide her with safe, low-FODMAP foods through elimination and observation. This helped her understand the food that suited her and those that made her uncomfortable. We also started her on supplementation to support her nutrient deficiencies and strengthen her gut health. B12, iron, Vitamin D supplements, and superfoods were suggested. A nutrient-dense plan that supports her health condition and lifestyle was suggested. All inflammatory foods, such as gluten, eggs, and lactose, were strictly removed.

Foods that were nourishing, comforting, easy to digest and local to the region were included in her diet. Small frequent meals were suggested. Good quality efficient protein such as hemp milk, bone broth, grass-fed chicken and beef, and tofu was included in her diet. All the vegetables and fruits from the green list were suggested to help with the IBS condition. Along with proteins, complex carbs such as quinoa, hand-pound rice, and steel-cut oats were combined to reduce insulin resistance. The elimination diet was quite beneficial and supported her IBS and PCOS issues. Healthy fats such as date seeds paste, greek yoghurts, ghee, and assorted nuts were suggested to support hormonal and brain functions. Her plan was made taking into account her holistic health.

An easy-to-follow exercise schedule was advised to her. Her diet and exercise were customised as per her routine and lifestyle, so it was easy for her to follow, considering that she just shifted to a new country. We also provided her fasting plans, which were sustainable during Ramadan. All the suggested foods were palatable and were suiting her ethnicity. She would travel during the day, and hence, we advised foods that were easy to carry and kept her energised. We kept her dinners light to support her gut health. Constant support and guidance was given. Real-time monitoring was done to ease her health journey.

Result:

With our support and guidance, her frequent washroom cycles stopped. Her washroom cycle was only once daily in the morning, and all her bloating, flatulence, and heaviness after meals and throughout the day disappeared. She finally experienced ease in her gut health after several years. She also lost 7 kgs in her health journey with us. Her energy levels improved, and she did not feel any bloating or gastric discomfort despite indulging in pleasure foods and high FODMAP foods. Her fitness levels got better. Her washroom cycles improved.
