CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES
Name: Anusha
Age: 29 yrs
Gender: Female
Country: USA
BMI: 26.5 kg/m2
Case History: Anusha approached us with the issues of hemorrhoids and irregular menstrual cycles. She was experiencing pain and passed blood while passing stools. She was constantly stressed because she did not know the trigger foods and would constantly be worried about the washroom cycle next day. She therefore could not enjoy having her pleasure food. Every time she went out with her friends for a social gathering, she would be in a constant state of worry and paranoia about the possibility of bleeding stool next day accompanied by pain and discomfort. She was also diagnosed with PCOD and was unable to get her menstrual cycle regularly. She was getting it in a 35-45 day frequency and that too with medication. She was living a sedentary lifestyle and was unaware of what caused her conditions and how to get relief from them.
Analysis: Past history, dietary recall and lifestyle choices.
Approach by best female nutritionist / dietician: We first analyzed her food diary, which was not working for her and saw that her food was devoid of fiber, eating easily available ready-to-eat cereal that reduced her work load and food that was making her body acidic. As a working professional, she was cooking once a day for lunch and dinner because of time and work constraints. We started by educating her about her lifestyle and portion size of the food to consume with maintaining consistency and suggested her to start some physical activity. Real time support along with recipes and pre-preparation methods were provided to her to save time and improve effectiveness.
We introduced wholesome food with sufficient protein, fiber and cell wall intact carbs. We included softer and high soluble fibers to provide relief to her hemorrhoids condition. Along with that we made sure that she included a different variety of vegetables rich in iron (leafy vegetables), high in fiber and moderate amount of tuberous vegetables (carrot, beetroot etc) & tofu as a vegan protein and fish which is light protein source to make the body more alkaline. We also introduced gut healing super foods like kefir and raw banana powder. Protein like chicken was causing heat for her body and therefore made them occasional foods. As a working professional, all alone in USA, we helped her with easy to cook and less complicated dishes so that she didn’t need to spend a lot of time in the kitchen.
Her vitamin profile was low as per her recent medical checkup and therefore recommended regular use of supplements for B-Complex with folic acid, vitamin D and a multi vitamin in order to improve her overall health. We also educated and monitored her water intake and exercise regimen on routine basis in order to improve her gut health with better absorption.
