CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES

Name- Ramesh

Age- 40 years

BMI- 33.21 kg/m2

Location- Bangalore/US

Profession- IT

Case history- Ramesh is a 40-year-old IT professional from Bangalore who settled in the US with his family. He suffers from gout arthritis which has caused limitations in his family and professional life. He wanted to achieve his ideal body weight and inspire his 10-year-old daughter to also stay healthy. Additionally, he was fatigued throughout the day, stressed, and had late-night cravings.

Analysis by the best clinical dietitian in Hyderabad, Telangana, India- His blood tests indicated he was obese, had high uric acid, high lipid and inflammation, anemia, Vitamin D and B12 deficient.

Approach by the best clinical dietitian in Hyderabad, Telangana, India- His dietary recall suggested that he was having meals centered around refined cereals, legumes and lentils such as white rice, toor dhal, breads, rotis, idlis, dosas etc. Whole grains, diverse vegetables, sufficient protein and good fats were missing in his meals. The food that he was eating was causing insulin resistance leading to high uric acid and Gout. Initially, we eliminated all purine-rich foods from his diet like fish, red meat, tomato, peas, mushrooms, etc. Since he was an insulin-resistant body type, we planned a balanced meal comprising of salads/soups, whole grains like brown rice, steel-cut oats, quinoa, sourdough bread, and rye bread. He preferred vegetarian foods more often than non-vegetarian foods, therefore we gave good proteins like homemade paneer, eggs, hung curd, tofu, and chicken occasionally. Good fats like ghee, seeds, and nuts were also included in the diet. Hemp milk, mutton bone soup, and date seed cubes improved his gut, anemia and inflammation parameters. He attended an intense 45-minute HIIT session 2 days a week at the gym and walked 3-5 km 3 days a week. We taught him how to make conscious choices while traveling , attending social events and late night calls.

Result- Ramesh lost 17 pounds in 5 months and was able to sustain it while traveling, dining out, and attending festival gatherings. He had to take the uric acid medicine at least 15 times each month. Post our program, he did not require to take the medication any more. He felt significant improvement in his energy levels which helped him to stay active throughout the day and stay consistent in his exercise routine. He was able to motivate his daughter to eat healthy and inspire her to take on a healthy active lifestyle. Furthermore, his hunger pangs and cravings disappeared. He feels proud of himself for accomplishing his health goals, and he is optimistic that he can maintain it in the long run.
