Case History:Manju, a 61-year-old senior citizen was detected with high blood pressure which was damaging her kidney functioning. She had high urine protein and urine creatinine of 33 & 260 respectively. Apart from that, she was also prediabetic with HbA1c of 6 and high insulin levels were elevated. She wanted a sustainable diet which would help manage her health conditions.

According to her blood reports, an optimum calorie diet with controlled potassium phosphorous was suggested.This was given taking care of her kidney functioning and to control her blood pressure. The diet providing was in accordance to her body type, her needs and health condition. Insulin resistance caused high blood pressure. Giving her appropriate protein, energy, vegetable, fruit and nut / seeds ratio helped correct insulin resistance. We recommended her to continue her blood pressure medication. As her immunity was weak, we incorporated immunity boosting foods such as green vegetables, easy to digest protein in the form of curd, and small portions of home-made paneer in her diet. We introduced soft grains such as quinoa that is diabetic friendly and easy to digest. We also gave her tips to manage her stress levels. Energy dense micronutrient rich foods were included to reduce fatigue and lethargy. As she started feeling more energetic through the day, we introduced physical activity such as walks during the program which further reduced her blood pressure and sugar levels.Her favorite foods were included in the diet and the meal plan was also customized according to her travel and occasions.



Results:

She managed to reduce insulin resistance with food which were included without losing weight which, was her desired outcome. Her BP has been in the normal range. In her CUE report that was taken 3 months after the start of the program, there was no indications of protein. Her creatinine levels were also in range Her energy levels improved and her stress levels reduced significantly.
