Case History: Yamini, has always been an underweight child and had recently joined her family business. She desired to work long hours and expand her family business but was unable to do so as she used to feel tired after a few hours of working and would keep falling sick. Her blood reports indicated nutritional deficiencies such as vit d, b12, ferritin, low normal iron, calcium and low albumin levels were 3.4g/dl which denotes protein malnutrition. She was also diagnosed with pre-diabetes with HbA1c of 5.7% with a close to the borderline fasting. She approached us to help with her gain weight healthily along with correcting her nutritional deficiencies and reversing her prediabetes condition.

Approach by the best weight gain nutritionist, Hyderabad, Telangana, India: By looking at her work schedule, we provided her with foods which were easy to carry and consume at work. The meal plan was designed taking into consideration her health goal which was weight gain. We also looked into decreasing insulin resistance so that her sugar levels are maintained preventing the risk of getting diabetes in the future Adequate macronutrient ratio was provided according to her body type and goal. As she is a small eater with less appetite, we gave her home-cooked nutrient-dense small meals which took care of her nutritional deficiencies. We included calcium-rich food in the form of casein-rich dairy products as it would take care of her vit b12, albumin and her pre-diabetic condition. We also included iron-rich food like dates along with super seed laddu to take care of iron and ferritin levels which also worked as an energy booster when she felt her energy levels were dipping towards the evening. As she is a vegetarian, we included vegan lean proteins like hemp and soy. Appropriate amino acid ratio and fibre needs were met by including whole grains and millet which might also help control the sugar levels. All the meals were designed such that she could enjoy festivals, parties and other social gatherings without compromising on her health goal.

She gained 6kgs over a span of 6 months. Her HbA1c came to the normal range which was 5.5%. There was an increase in her albumin levels which came into the ideal range. She was able to work long hours with energy till the end of the day. Her immunity had also improved and was able to work for months without falling sick or getting frequent colds and coughs. Her nutritional deficiencies such as iron, ferritin, vitamin d, and b12 were also resolved. Overall, there was a good increase in her energy levels and mood.
