Case History: Sheeba was suffering from fibromyalgia and had lots of body pain. Apart from this, she had irregular periods for which she was kept on hormonal medications. She used to feel drowsy throughout the day especially after her meals. Due to prolonged stress and panic attacks, she was also put on anti-depressants. The severity of her pain resulted in insomnia and it became really difficult for her to sleep peacefully at night. Analysis: Past history, dietary recall and lifestyle choices.

Approach: We analyzed her food diary and identified her meals to have a high glycemic load. We therefore replaced Sheeba’s high glycemic diet with a balanced diet which comprised of complex carbohydrates, adequate protein and sufficient fats so that she could feel energetic even after eating meals and was able to work with ease without having to take a forced nap. As we followed a nutrient dense, anti-inflammatory diet, she could see the visible difference in her pains. She was advised to take supplements along with the food items in order to further accelerate the healing process and therefore mitigate the pains caused due to fibromyalgia. She was put on time-restrictive eating where she was allowed to have 3 meals in a day from 8 am to 5 pm. In her diet, low glycemic foods along with adequate organic protein sources such as wild caught fish, grass fed meat and free range chicken helped her build stress to the body and therefore provide optimum nutrition. The balanced meals additionally gave her consistent energy and reduced her mood swings through the day. This was coupled with giving her foods that allowed her body to get into an optimal metabolic flexibility which helped her in shifting to a fat burning mode seamlessly. Results: After following the prescribed regimen for a week, she started feeling more energetic and productive as her sleeping habit after consuming meals greatly reduced. In 6 months, her periods also became regular and that too without any hormonal medications. Icing on the cake was she lost 5 kgs weight, her fat percentage reduced and her muscle mass improved and her overall fibromyalgia condition significantly improved and therefore was able to work through the day and sleep through the night with minimal disruptions and therefore wake up fresh the next day.
