Practical & nutrient-dense nutrition can reverse PCOS, reduce hair loss & weight loss sustainable.

Case History: Ishita approached us with a history of PCOS and hair fall. She tried multiple ways but couldn’t lose her weight as the various approaches that she tried didn’t work for her weight loss. She further ended up losing her hair more than it reached a state of slight baldness. She was overweight, had irregular menses, memory issues and lack of concentration. She was further trying to conceive. She had seen her relatives lose weight sustainably and therefore approached us with some hope.

Analysis by a best clinical nutritionist, Hyderabad, Telangana, India: Past history, dietary recall and lifestyle choices. Her reports disclosed that she was pre-diabetic with HbA1C level 5.9%. She further had a low BUN ratio which suggested that she could be suffering from protein deficiency. She had low calcium, iron and haemoglobin levels which stated the condition of malnutrition.

Approach by best clinical nutritionist / dietician: We analyzed her food diary and saw that her diet was lacking iron and protein which was leading to hair loss, fatigue and irritability which further impacted her work. We started by giving her an iron-rich diet and did not introduce any supplements. We further included protein in 3 major meals every day to ensure she gets around 0.8 grams per body weight every day. We also ensured that her diet had sufficient t leucine (an amino acid that aids in weight loss) in her diet. We started by replacing refined grains with whole grains and cell-wall intact carbs. We introduced easy-to-digest vegetables which were soothing to her gut. Since she was complaining of low energy and fatigue, we gave her a sumptuous breakfast of adequate protein to help her kick-start the day with energy. Omega 3 Seeds were also included in her diet to include essential fatty acids and nutrient density.

Results: After following the program consistently, she was able to see improvements in all her parameters. Her hair growth improved and came in a much better state and it no longer seemed bald. Her energy levels improved significantly. She was able to lose 10 kgs of weight for the first time after so long and that too even after attending multiple social events. Her triglyceride levels reduced from 118 mg/dl to 66 mg/dl. Her BUN levels increased from 3.9 to 11.6 and her HbA1C level further reduced to 5.7% from 5.9%. Further, her hemoglobin level also started improving from 10 to 10.5 gm/dl.
