Optimal and adequate nutritional composition helps bring out the best output on field.

Name: Sudhakar

Age: 45

Gender: Male

BMI: 26

Case History: Sudhakar, a fitness enthusiast was a part of a running group in Hyderabad and used to participate in the -10 km runs. He decided to attempt ½ marathon and therefore started training under a fitness coach. However, he was not able to cope with the training regimen. His recovery would take a long which, which would make him feel sore, tired and lethargic throughout the day. This hampered his output at work and energy levels through the day and disrupted his sleep cycles at night as well. While he was keen to attempt a full marathon, his performance and subsequent recovery during the training of ½ marathon itself bothered him and therefore was shying away from the thought of attempting a full marathon.

Approach by the best sports nutritionist: His reports indicated high levels of Hs-CRP which indicates inflammation: a reason for delayed recovery and soreness. His reports also indicated over-the-range LDL. His physical appearance showed belly fat and his karada scan showed high levels of visceral fat. We gave him an anti-inflammatory nutrition program to support his recovery. To ensure belly fat reduction, we gave him a plan with an optimum glycaemic load and sufficient protein that supported a reduction in visceral fat and consistent energy throughout the day. We ensured adequate nutrition which took care of his pre-workout and post-workout nutrition along with a protein-energy balance that helped him recover faster, quicker, and better. His meal plan took care of his stamina and energy levels which would help sustain him through the run. Furthermore, we also monitored his optimum protein requirement to ensure that he remained energetic throughout the day.

Results: Within the first 15 days, he noticed that his fatigue, and soreness in the body reduced drastically and the quality of sleep at night improved significantly. He was able to sleep on time and noticed he had sound sleep and was able to wake up fresh the next morning. As his recovery period reduced and he felt fitter, he decided to start training for the full marathon. In 4 months, he competed in his first-ever full marathon. He was able to complete his first competitive full marathon (42 km) at his personal best of less than 4 hours and with enough energy to sustain himself without feeling exhausted or lethargic. He also was able to recover much faster. With a continued and dedicated follow-up of our recommendations, within 3 months his Hs-CRP levels dropped down to 2.4 from 8, his cholesterol level got into a healthy range and his waistline also went down by 2.5 inches.
