CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES
Name: Pushpalatha
Age: 52 years
Gender: Female
BMI: 29.33 kg/m2
Case History: Pushpalatha had severe body pains and her ankle would her hurt even when carrying out minimal physical activity like pursuing her daily chores. As she was overweight her doctor advised her to lose weight as her excess weight was creating a stress on her ankles thus, leading to pains. So by following the diet from some other program she lost 10 kgs of weight. Even after losing the weight her pains were still persistent. She then approached us with the pains and wanted a diet that was sustainable which she could follow for lifetime, lose another 6 kgs and give her relief from body pains, joint pains and ankle pains.
Analysis: Blood reports, dietary recall and lifestyle. Her blood reports indicated adequate calcium, her vitamin d and b12 were in the sufficient range and her insulin parameters were also fine. The only score that was way outside of the range was her HsCRP levels which depicted that she is suffering from inflammation which was causing her pains. From her dietary recall, it was evident that she had lost weight due to a purely calorie deficit diet, and the program did not consider other good health parameters like muscle gain-fat loss or inflammation. Overall, it would take care of weight loss by reducing the calories but would make someone malnourished as well.
Approach by best clinical nutritionist: We analysed her food diary and saw that she her concept of eating salads was just having cucumber and carrots which led to nutritional deficiencies in her body. We started by giving her an anti-inflammatory diet that ensured an adequate intake of variety of vegetables in every meal, sufficient omega 3 food which comprised of nuts, seeds and an omega 3 supplement and worked on her protein energy malnutrition. We provided her whole-grains in a portion controlled manner, included proteins in all her meals along with lots of vegetables in order to reduce her inflammations and curb her nutritional deficiencies.
