CASE STUDY & SUCCESS STORIES
Name: Sandeep
Age: 26
Profession: Data Scientist
Location: Hyderabad, Telangana, India
Case History:Sandeep, a data scientist working in a multinational, has been facing diarrhea and bloating since long time. He was detected with Lymphoma 4 years ago which he survived with chemotherapy sessions, after which he started facing gut and digestive issues. He was detected with IBS post the chemotherapy session. He would have 2-3 episodes of washroom cycle in the first half of the day and another couple of episodes in the 2nd half of the day. He was struggling with maintaining his gut health and was not able to retain much food after his meals and therefore felt very tired and fatigued through the day . He further felt a lot of pain and discomfort in the stomach post his meals till he relieved himself. This made him tired&fatigued throughout the day and did not allow him to enjoy food or to pursue any physical activity of his choice . We asked him to get vitamin D and B12 tested, where we found that his Vit D status was low which made the IBS and gut health worse.
Approach by the best dietitian in Hyderabad, Telangana, India: Correction of Vit D status was the first line of treatment through supplementation. We provided him a customized meal plan with appropriate macronutrient ratio which was designed according to his body type and health goal. A low FODMAP diet approach was used which eliminated all the trigger foods for IBS. Slow introduction of one food item at a time was done which helped his gut heal. Soft vegetables with less fiber like pumpkin, beans, carrot, were included. We also suggested him IBS friendly soft fruits like dragon fruit, papaya, banana etc. All these foods helped reduce the stress and inflammation in the gut. We suggested him to start with eggs, mutton bone soup and fish first which also met his protein requirements. Other stomach health healing and nutrient rich food options like hemp milk, , raw banana powder, aloe were suggested. We also ensured optimum vitamin and mineral absorption through these foods as it ensures gut health. Addition of other foods were done overtime. IBS friendly probiotics and prebiotics were given to heal the gut and increase the tolerance levels to other foods. Continuous monitoring and tracking of different food items consumed and overall health was done to ensure optimum recovery and improvement.
Results:
There was significant improvement in the first month. There were no signs of discomfort or acidity after his meals. His washroom cycles improved and became normal i.e. twice a day both of which happened within few hours of his wake up. His digestion and tolerance to different food items improved. His vit D levels got corrected and his energy levels increased. He was able to sustain his weight along with enjoying his meals. His stamina improved significantly. For the first time in many years, he was able to go for treks and participate in outdoor activity without any discomfort to the gut and was energetic through the whole activity.
