Krishna, an obese individual, was recently detected with hypertension. Earlier, he took medication to reduce his cholesterol levels. He is currently having olmezest medicine to treat his high blood pressure. His blood reports showed high triglyceride levels and his albumin levels were low suggesting protein malnutrition. His creatinine levels were high normal of 1.1. and eGFR levels were below 100. His Vit D levels and iron levels were also low. By analyzing his dietary recall, we saw that he was consuming coffee first thing in morning which created acidity in the stomach. His breakfast was simple carbohydrate gluten rich causing inflammation and raising sugar and insulin levels quickly. His diet was low fiber and protein causing various deficiencies in the body. Hence, we started first by correcting his vitamin D levels through diet and supplementation. We designed a meal plan with macronutrient ratio of 41:19:40 appropriate to his body type and health goals. Good quality efficient proteins were incorporated in his diet. Hung curd , 2 eggs, country chicken, tofu were given which were not only protein rich but also provided various micronutrients like iron. Sufficient vegetables were included to control his triglyceride levels in the form of soup, salads, sabzis and sautéed veggies. We required to reduce inflammation and hence we recommended him to go with bone broths and fiber rich foods in the form of green leafy vegetables, green vegetables and adequate tubers to treat inflammation. In order to increase his iron levels, we gave him 60grams of dates seed paste every day. Good quality healthy fats were given such as ghee, nuts. Deep sea fish like salmon was advised to meet his iron and fatty acids needs. Guidelines and tips were suggested to him while traveling and social gatherings. Continuous monitoring and constant support was provided.
With our support and guidance, he lost 12 kg in 3 months. His other health parameters such as iron and vit D levels increased to 66 and 62 respectively. His inflammation in the body reduced. The Hs-CRP score reduced to 1.61. His washroom improved significantly. His triglyceride levels reduced from 168 to 127mg/dl. He felt energetic and his blood pressure medication was eliminated as his bp was in the normal range. He was able to improve his health and achieve goals through personalized nutrition support.
